Pretty solid rumor that we're months away from a Mactablet

This is yet another mactablet rumor but it does come from a fairly solid source. Besides, we all love the believe the rumors because one day they'll be true:
A little birdy tells me that Apple will announce a 12 or 13-inch tablet in the fall of this year. Most likely in the September or October time frame. It will run the full Mac OS X and have a slot loading SuperDrive, an “iPhone-type” GPS chip and an Intel Core Duo processor, presumably Intel’s Atom.
Whether it’ll be a based on the iPhone or MacBook form-factor remains to be seen. You’ll recall that Intel Germany CEO Hannes Schwaderer spilled the beans that an “iPhone” that will be using Intel’s new Atom processor after which he was quickly corrected by Apple. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire indeed.
This particular birdy has been reliable in the past so I’m optimistic about the rumor, but as always, nothing’s for sure. Apple’s had tablet Macs in the labs for years but hasn’t decided to make one a real product, until now.
I’m excited as hell about an Apple tablet and think that it would be a great accessory/vertical market Mac, i.e. a perfect second Mac that you can commute with or take to meetings, classes etc. A tablet would be ideal for consuming Web-based content like RSS feed, Web pages, email, etc. The larger screen area will improve data input, providing more on-screen real estate for an iPhone-like virtual keyboard, as will haptic feedback. The new Apple tablet would also mark the return of handwriting recognition to the Mac for the first time since the Newton was killed on February 27, 1998 after Jobs returned to Apple

Windows Mobile Device Center and the Dopod U1000

Had a few issues getting the sync to work. I paired it with the P100 via bluetooth and just couldn't get it to sync, so I went to the Microsoft website and found the latest version of Windows Mobile Device Center and downloaded it. It looked on the site to be different from what I was seeing.
I installed it and it never seemed to work properly. I just kept seeing the same screen and it never let me sync much. I plugged it in with USB and it charged OK but nothing changed.
Now I usually keep the P100 in sleep or hibernate but i had to shutdown for updates and so I accidentally started it with the Dopod/HTC plugged in via USB and lo and behold the sync centre setup screen started. It has never installed properly by the looks of it so I'm guessing you have to plug in with USB the first time and install and after you can use Bluetooth. So now I have the cool screen and app working and I'm loving it.
I particularly like the ability to sync Onenote Mobile and it works very well. It appears in the app as a HTC 7510 because of the ROM.

Buy off ebay: beware

My new tech purchase; a Dopod U1000 (HTC Advantage) has been a less than pleasing experience.
I bought from a guy in the US - jason moe of Silicon Mechanics (ebay ID rollingforward), and while describing the unit as "Item is used some marks on the device itself. Screen is in perfect condition." What he actually sent is the trashed, scratched piece of junk that is pictured!
Now I'm off to try and get Paypal to give me a refund when I return it as he dropped me a one line email stateing "used item, no refunds".
Thank heaven for chargebacks if Paypal decide to not try as at least my bank will give me the cash back and Paypal can chase him.

RAM upgrade on the LG P100

I've just completed the RAM upgrade on the P100. Windows now shows 4GB Ram.
Haven't played with it a lot yet so haven't noticed an improvement but Windows Experience Index shows some gains. The graphocs went from 3.8 to 3.9 and the gaming graphics went from 4.3 to 4.5.
Just tried some multi tasking with a DivX movie playing and a couple of programs open and it seemed to fly between them pretty well with no skipping occuring in the movie. All in all pretty happy.

Upgrading RAM on the P100
I ordered the Corsair RAM and while waiting I decided to open her up and see if it was going to be difficult. I thought about posting photos but it's so simple it didn't seem worth it. You simply unscrew four clearly marked screws on the bottom and the keyboard comes off. Beneath there's two SO-DIMM slots one of which has a 2GB stick in it. The whole thing took 2 minutes so when the RAM arrives it'll be a piece of cake. The keyboard also reveals the wireless card so to upgrade to N wireless would be very easy too.
The only thing I couldn't get to easily would be the area where a Sim card slot should be as it's under the palm rest area. I was hoping to see if it had the hardware n place to fit a Sim card but I guess that'll have to wait until I pull the whole thing apart (that'll be a while :))
I also won on auction a Dopod U1000 which is going to be my tablet portable UMPC solution halfway between my Nokia N95 and the P100.
